Perovskite Research & Development

1 University-Research-and-Development smSolar cell efficiencies of devices using Perovskite materials have increased from 3.8% in 2009i to 22.1%ii in early 2016, making this the fastest advancing solar technology to date. Recent publications demonstrate that perovskite PV could even reach a theoretical peak efficiency of 31%iii. Similar to organic light emitting diodes (OLED) and organic PV (OPV), the deposition of the required thin film can be realized by a coating solution based process (e.g. printing, slot-die coating, etc.), or via physical vapor depositions under vacuum conditions. As both processes have their own advantages, a clear favorite for the intended mass production is not yet evident.

To reclaim full process control, MBRAUN with the combined expertise from CreaPhys (Part of the MBRAUN Group) designed a specific deposition chamber for perovskite PV based on a novel concept. This system does, of course, include the modifications to ensure long system lifetime. Furthermore, our team developed a special deposition source for the organic halide deposition. Together with our novel system design, we are able to improve process control, resulting in a higher repeatability of subsequent depositions. Furthermore, we give the operator an additional lever to fine-tune the perovskite deposition, making our system the ideal tool for efficient R&D in this vivid field.

  • Protection of the pump system via cold trap
  • All component materials chosen for high corrosion resistance
  • Special organic halide deposition source
  • Optimized operating regime for a controlled process
