Perovskite

PERFECT PEROVSKITE MANUFACTURING

Bad process control for perovskite vacuum deposition is a result of the properties of the organic precursor molecules (low evaporation temperature, generation of a partial pressure in the chamber).

MBRAUN/CreaPhys novel perovskite patentet deposition concept addresses these problems with two major modifications to the system:

  • a special system design to optimize the operating regime for a controlled process
  • a new high precision precursor deposition sources.

Deposition of volatile compounds (e.g. MAI) including multi-source co-deposition processes can be done under highly controlled high vacuum conditions.Furthermore, shadow masking can be used reliably to structure the deposited material.

Breaking news! The efficiency of perovskite silicon tandem solar cells could be increased by 32.5 % with the help of MBRAUNĀ“s equipment.

Prof. Dr. Steve Albrecht and his 11-member team at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) research and develop tandem solar cells that combine the advantages of silicon and perovskite solar cells. In order to create the best research conditions, Prof. Albrecht had installed systems from the market leaders, MBRAUN and CreaPhys (a part of MBRAUN). The Perovskite cluster is composed of 4 different parts: Precursor synthesis, wet coating with spin coater, evaporation of perovskites and metallization, scaling with inkjet printer and slot die coater under laminar flow. Every part of the cluster is integrated in inert gloveboxes under inert atmosphere to guarantee the best performance of the devices, as well as the best repeatability.

The junior research group recently succeeded in increasing the efficiency of perovskite silicon tandem solar cells to 32.5 %. MBRAUN and CreaPhys are proud to be able to contribute a substantial part to the success with this customized equipment.

Since the end of 2014, Prof. Dr. Steve Albrecht has further expanded the research field of perovskite solar cells at the HZB with the HySPRINT Pervoskite Laboratory. Today, 40 users work here, who produce and characterize perovskite layers for solar cells using various techniques and processes
