Sublimation is the endothermic (absorbs energy) phase transition of a substance from solid state into the vapor phase without passing through the liquid phase. Based on this process organic opto-electronic materials can be purified to reach the high purity grades which is required to manufacture high-performance OLED devices and organic solar cells.
Vacuum sublimation systems offered by MBRAUN are intended to purify (organic) materials and compounds for subsequent thin film deposition processes. During the process – a fractional distillation - the solid material is placed into a crucible and is heated under vacuum. Under these conditions the material vaporizes and subsequently recrystallizes on actively cooled surface as an ultra-pure compound, leaving a non-volatile residue of impurities behind whereas the volatile fractions are withdrawn from the system from the connected vacuum pump stack.
